We put up with our old scale for many years, until it finally died--thank goodness because it wasn't very accurate or consistent. We bought this HoMedics SC-475 a few weeks ago and are very impressed with it. It is accurate and consistent. The readout is so clear and big that I (age 80) don't need my glasses to see it. It feels sturdily made.

I've had this scale for several months now. It is pleasing to the eye and incredibly accurate. My roomie weighed a suitcase on it prior to taking his friend to the airport and reported back the precise reading that it took compared to the airline baggage check scales.

In order to zero correctly, the scale needs to be put on a flat, hard, even surface. If not, then your readings may differ. Be sure to step lightly on the scale so that it zeroes out properly, that way you know if you're on a good surface. Then step on it for your reading. It doesn't take but 5 seconds to ensure accuracy every time.

Be careful not to step on the LCD display, as I just did that this week and cracked it, but this model has a lifetime warranty. I just called the customer service center (number is on the bottom of scale) and they are processing my request for a brand new scale in return for my old one.
