Massage
Shiatsu Massaging Cushions (SBM and QRM models)
When I turn the unit on, it makes a loud noise and the Shiatsu massage isn’t traveling up and down.
Many of our Shiatsu cushions ship with a screw in the back of the cushion that must be removed before first use. This is to protect the Shiatsu mechanism during shipment. If it is not removed, the Shiatsu massage will not operate. Use the provided Allen wrench to remove the screw. Dispose of it properly and use the provided black plug to fill the hole.
I do not have the Allen wrench. Can I get another one?
Yes, they are available through our Consumer Relations Department.
I do not have the small black plug. Can I get another one? Can I operate the cushion without it?
The black plug is not needed to operate the unit but they are available through Consumer Relations Department via email or phone.
What type of massage is it and how strong is the massage?
These units feature Shiatsu massage for the back. Shiatsu is a kneading, circular massage style. Shiatsu is a strong massage.
The shiatsu back massage is too strong.
These particular massage cushions provide an intense, shiatsu massage. Because of the nature of shiatsu massage, some people may find it to be too intense. In this case, we recommend that you place a towel between the massager and your back to lessen the intensity.
When I turn the unit off, the Shiatsu massage mechanism keeps moving.
The Shiatsu massage mechanism will always stop or “park” at the bottom of the seat back. If it is not in that position when the unit is turned off, it will continue traveling until it reaches the bottom of its track and then it will stop.
Can the unit focus on one particular area?
Yes, there are three programs: upper, lower and full back.

My massage cushion has a strong odor. Is this normal?
Yes. The odor that you smell is a natural "off-gassing" from the glue used in the production of the cushion. The glue is safe and has been used for many years on several of our products without any problems. With the increase in our production rates associated with this successful product, we have had to reduce our "drying times" to meet the phenomenal demand for this product. Once produced, our cushions normally go through a "hang drying" period to air out, and we have reduced this time. Product is produced, inserted into the packages for shipment, sealed in containers, unloaded and immediately shipped to the stores. This faster turn-around has reduced the overall "airing" time and contributed to the smell. The smell however does dissipate over time once the product is opened and is not harmful.

Scales
Scales
How do I begin using my scale?
Start by placing the scale on a hard, flat surface. Carpeted or uneven floors will affect the accuracy of the scale's readings. If your scale is not digital, simply step on the scale to see the reading. If your scale is digital, lightly press on the scale ("0" will display across the LCD) and let off. This process will make sure that the scale is set and is ready for use. If you move the scale to another area of your home, repeat this process. Any other time, you can simply step straight on the scale to see your reading.
My scale is reading "( ERR0 )." What am I doing wrong?
Any time the scale gives you this message, it is unstable and unable to lock in a weight. Make sure the scale is sitting on a hard flat surface (no carpet or rugs) and that you are standing with both of your feet centered on the unit. If you are doing these two things, and the unit is still giving you this error message, it may need to be exchanged through Customer Service. Please visit our Contact Us page and let us know about the issue.
When I step on the scale more than once, I get a different reading each time. Why?
The scale will give inaccurate readings if you keep stepping on and off of the scale within a fifteen minute period. If you want to check your weight multiple times, please wait fifteen minutes between each reading. This allows the scale ample time to reset itself.

Fountains
How often do I need to change the water?
Clean the fountain as it becomes dirty. Regularly changing the water (weekly) will help to keep the fountain cleaner, longer. Keeping the water clean prevents the water from becoming sticky and from forming microorganisms. An algaecide or humidifier treatment can also be helpful. Direct sunlight will encourage growth of microorganisms, so it is best to keep the fountain out of direct sunlight.
Do I have to use filtered or distilled water in my fountain?
Distilled water is recommended to keep the fountain cleaner for longer periods of time and reduce buildup.
Can my cat drink from the fountain?
No. A fountain should be placed where pets cannot reach it.
Can I have fish in my fountain?
No. This is not recommended because there is a pump that draws water through an intake valve.
How long will a fountain run?
The fountain is designed to run as long as there is water. However, you will need to add water occasionally as it evaporates. Please keep in mind that a fountain is an electrical appliance and should not be left unattended when running.
How do I order additional bulbs, bulb covers, adapters or parts?
Many replacement parts can be ordered online. Visit our Parts & Accessories page for instructions or contact our Consumer Relations Department for help in ordering.
Do I need to clean the inside of the pump?
There should be no need to clean the inside of the pump unless it stops working. The pump could stop working from algae buildup. See the Product Manual for instruction on removing algae from the pump. Remove the water pump inlet to access the impeller area. Then turn the rotor to ensure it is not broken or jammed.
How often will I need to add water?
You will need to add water periodically. The water will gradually evaporate and the pump will no longer be submerged completely. The water line should always be high enough to completely cover the pump. If the pump begins making a sputtering noise, you will know to add more water, BUT you should make a habit of filling the fountain BEFORE the pump makes noise. Before refilling, turn your fountain off and allow the water to drain from the fountain top back into the bowl. If you do not wait for the water to fall back down into the bowl before refilling, you may overfill the fountain and cause spillage.
How do I change the light bulb/bulb cover?
Gently remove the bulb cover by holding the bulb cover in one hand and the rubber neck in the other hand. Do not pull on the cord. Pull the light bulb straight out from its socket and replace with a new bulb. Replace the bulb cover.

Facial Care Systems
Is my facial brush waterproof or water-resistant? (FAC-50C)
No. It is not waterproof or water-resistant. To clean attachments, first remove the attachment and then rinse the attachment under water. Rinsing the appliance under water will damage it.

Is the lotion provided hypoallergenic? (FAC-IR)
It is not hypoallergenic, but it is scent-free and dye-free for sensitive skin.

The suction cups will deeply cleanse your pores by using suction to remove impurities from below the skin's surface. The small suction cup is for the nose area and the large suction cup is for the cheeks, chin and forehead.
What are the attachments for? (FAC-100)
The brush is for cleansing, the suction cups for pore cleansing, the massage roller for toning and the sponge for moisturizing and cleansing.
How often should I cleanse my pores? (FAC-100)
This product should be used three to four times a week for normal skin.
Does the adjustable steam work for the inhaler attachment? (FAC-2)
No, the adjustable steam only works with the facial mask. If you are using the inhaler and the steam is too hot, simply move your face farther away from the steam.
My facial sauna turns off before I am done with my treatment. Why? (FAC-2)
Check the water level. This unit only holds enough water for a 15-minute treatment: 18 mL/0.6 oz. The facial sauna has a safety shutoff that will turn the sauna off when the water runs out. If you chose to experience a longer treatment, you will have to add water after 15 minutes.
The spout fell off my facial steamer. Can I use it like this? (FAC-3)
Yes, you can use it without the spout attached. However, the steam will not be directed as well. It is best to use with the spout in place. You can adjust the spout up or down for best direction.
My facial sauna turns off before I am done with my treatment. Why? (FAC-3)
Check the water level. This unit only holds enough water for approximately 17 minutes of treatment. The facial sauna has a safety shutoff that will turn the sauna off when the water runs out. If you chose to experience a longer treatment, you will have to add water after 17 minutes.
How much water should I add? (FAC-3)
A cup is provided that indicates a maximum fill of 170 mL/5.7 oz. A maximum fill will produce approximately 17 minutes of steam treatment. If you lose the cup, you can use a household measuring cup to fill to 170 mL/5.7 oz.
The steam pressure is too strong. (FAC-3)
Place the steamer farther from you and adjust the spout for the best comfort.
Can I use aromatherapy oils with my steamer? (FAC-3)
No. Aromatherapy oils are not recommended.

It is a process of exfoliation with micro-crystals to remove the dead surface layers of the skin.
How often should I do microdermabrasion?
Two or three times a week.
How can I get more microdermabrasion cream?
Many replacement parts can be ordered online. Visit our Parts & Accessories page for instructions or contact our Consumer Relations Department for help in ordering.
Footbaths
Why doesn't my footbath heat the water?
Only the JS-200 Jet Spa™ Ultra actually heats water. The heat function of our other footbaths is designed to help maintain the warm water temperature; it does not heat the water, but it delays the water's cooling, keeping it warm longer. You must always fill the footbath with warm water to begin with.
What does Double the Bubbles™ mean?
Double the Bubbles is a patented technology offered by HoMedics. Prior to this, all bubble tracks were straight. HoMedics changed the track to an "S” shape to cover more area with bubble track. Therefore, more bubbles are produced.
Can my footbath be used as a dry massager?
No. The footbath should not be used dry. It should only be used with water.
Can I use my footbath with Epsom salts or oil additives?
We recommend only oil additives be used with your footbath.
We do not recommend Epsom salts due to the fact that they will crystallize and block the holes in the unit. Should you choose to use a liquid additive, use them sparingly and be sure to clean the unit thoroughly after use.
How do I clean my footbath?
Unplug the footbath and empty all water. Wipe down with a soft cloth or use a mild cleanser to clean the walls of the tub. Rinse thoroughly so that no cleanser residue remains.
How much water do I fill the tub with, and what kind of water do I use?
There is a fill line on the inside of the tub. The water should be no higher than this line. Fill with regular tap water.
The water temperature in my footbath seems to be cooling very quickly. Is this normal?
The bubbles on these products are created by utilizing the air outside the footbath. Since the air is much cooler than the warm water temperature, this will cool the water quickly. However, the heat feature will help to maintain the heat while using the bubbles. Without it, the water would cool much quicker than 10-15 minutes.
Manicure & Pedicure
What does "cord-cordless" mean? (MAN-170)
This appliance can be used with or without the cord attached. After charging the appliance, detach the cord for convenient cordless use. Or use it with the cord attached while it is charging.

First insert two AA batteries into the battery compartment. Then, after applying nail polish, gently place your hand in the dryer compartment. Gentle pressure will turn the dryer on. Hold your hand in place until you think your polish is dry.
What is the difference between the manicure and pedicure attachments?
The manicure attachments are smaller for the hand, and the pedicure attachments are larger for the feet.
Why doesn't my appliance work with the cord plugged in? (MAN-150)
This appliance is rechargeable only. This means that the cord is for recharging only. Once the unit is fully charged, unplug the cord and use. The appliance will not work while it is charging.
Paraffin Baths
How do I remove the paraffin wax if I have spilled it?
Allow the paraffin wax to cool and harden. For porous surfaces, scrape off as much wax as possible. Use either a blow dryer or steam iron (on top of a paper towel) to melt the excess paraffin wax. Use a clean cloth or paper towels to blot the remaining paraffin wax. Mineral spirits (available at most grocery, hardware and discount stores) can be used to remove any traces of wax. Spot removers may also be used prior to washing. Place item in the washing machine. Always check the garment's cleaning instructions before laundering. Contact your local cleaner for recommendations. For carpet, follow the same instructions as listed above. However, if there is a question about colorfastness and the use of mineral spirits, you should test a small area first or consult a commercial cleaner. For non-porous surfaces, first remove any pieces of solidified paraffin wax by scraping with an object that won't scratch the surface. Then use an all-purpose cleaner (such as Formula 409 or Soft Scrub). Before using the cleaner, read the label to verify that the cleaner can be used on the surface in question.
How frequently can I use the paraffin bath?
There is no limit on how often you can use the paraffin baths.
Can I put the paraffin wax back in the unit after I have peeled it off?
If your paraffin bath is for your own personal use, then yes, you can place the used wax back into the tub for re-melting. This will also save you from having to refill it as often. However, if you do reuse the paraffin wax, you will have to clean the unit more often, due to additional debris.
Should my paraffin wax be solidifying when I have the setting on ”keep warm?" (Pertains to units with adjustable temperature controls only.)
It is not uncommon for your paraffin to get a film on the top or solidify while in the "keep warm" setting. Turn the dial to the right to melt the paraffin wax at least one hour before use. It also helps to stir the wax as it is melting, to speed things up.
Why does the paraffin bath not have an On/Off switch? (Pertains to units with adjustable temperature controls only.)
The paraffin bath is not designed to be turned on and off frequently and therefore does not need an On/Off switch. We recommend that you unplug your unit if you do not intend to use it in a 48- to 72-hour period.
How can I get more wax?
You can buy more wax at homedics.com or find it a retailer near you by clicking here. Many retailers also carry a two-pound refill that also comes with 20 liners. You also may order replacement parts using the form in the instruction booklet that offers wax, liners, and mitts and boots.
When I turn my paraffin bath on, the light is red. Can I dip when the light is red? (Pertains to PAR-70 only.)
No. The red is a ”wait indicator” signaling that the bath is heating the wax to melt. Once the wax is melted, the bath will then cool slightly for comfortable dipping. The indicator light will change to green when the wax is safe for dipping.
There is no adjustable temperature control on my unit and the wax is too hot. What should I do? (Pertains to PAR-70 only.)
If the temperature is too hot, try leaving the lid open for a short time to cool the wax slightly. If the wax starts to solidify, then close the lid again.
How do I open the lid? (Pertains to PAR-70 only)
Press on the large oval button where it states ”Press to open.” This will unlatch the lid.
