We have used our humidifier for over two years with nothing but positive results. It is quiet, easy to fill for a person of average hand strength, and fairly easy to clean. Sure, mold builds up if it is never cleaned, but who would ever think that a perpetually moist surface would not mold? Antimicrobial surfaces just allows more time between cleanings. Clean it with vinegar once a month and it will work for years! We will buy another if this one ever fails.

MOLD build-up in the port that shoots out the vapor. MOLD build-up where the yellow O-ring is in the reservoir housing. Flakey particles floating in the reservoir where the tank empties into. have cleaned several times and it just comes back. Ultrasonic what??

Very good humidifier. We have been using it for 8 months now and have no complaints. We love how easy it is to fill, to adjust the level of vapor, and cleaning it is really not much of a chore to us. My favorite small appliance purchase!

Used about 10 times last winter. This year we brought it out and the motor died after 2 uses. Of course it's out of the 1 year warrantee. Very disappointed with Homedics which I thought was a good brand. JUNK!

Have had this humidifier for a year now. Overall, it has worked well. I fill it twice a day. It is quiet enough that I leave it on high all the time during the cold dry season.

My complaints are few, but could be tweaked with some design modifications.

1. Like others have suggested, removing the tank from the base does result in water dripping from the bottom of the tank. I set my unit on a towel, and keep another towel nearby to catch drips on the way to the sink.

2. It is easy to fill if you have a sink/spout that will let you sit the tank in the sink and not have to hold it up the whole time. For some, it may be a heavy and difficult task, but keep in mind it a fixed volume of water and water weighs quite a bit. If it is too heavy, only partly fill, or get a smaller unit.

3. Cleaning the base unit is not difficult, EXCEPT there are passages/areas that are largely inaccessible and/or difficult to reach. Notably, the area behind the air discharge port can't be seen (without a small mirror) and can only be randomly reached with a Q-tip. The float-looking port on the other side of the device is similarly inaccessible, although you can remove a screw from the unit and then clean it completely. The discharge port on the unit is only accessible by taking the whole unit apart, and I have done so to remove accumulations of residue and mold. It is not as easy to do as it should be.

4. The most troublesome design flaw, and it IS a design flaw, is the inability to take the plastic diverter box apart to clean. I understand that virtually ANY humidifier will leave SOME residue unless you use distilled water. So I have no issue with the fact that I (have to) clean it thoroughly about ever week or so. It is not a big deal and only should take 2-3 minutes. But the plastic box has inside space that is inaccessible for cleaning! So residue and whatnot build up. And since I notice that there can be buildup of mold on the discharge vent (which I can take apart, though not easily), I do have concerns about mold buildup inside the box. I have written HoMedics asking how to clean this but have not heard back.

Overall, I would recommend this unit as I have not had the tank breakage or leakage, or the motor failure issues other reviewers had. I do not find the noise objectionably loud, nor the drip issues so significant as to not recommend. I would HIGHLY recommend if HoMedics were able to correct what I see as design flaws...particularly the cleaning issue.

Bearing in mind that some residue and cleaning is normal, so no objection there, but the ease, or rather, lack of ease, with which it can be cleaned detracts 2 stars from the rating.

I am so displeased with this humidifier. I bought it as opposed to others even though it was more than I had hoped to pay because I thought Homedics' made a good product. I was wrong. It has not done any of what it is advertised to do. The hair on my dogs ears stands straight out the air is so dry and electrified. The "white dust" that this appliance throws out is all over my TV screen, computer, router, Fios box etc. even with the capsule used in the water that is suppose to eliminate this problem. It is suggested that maybe distilled water will eliminate the problem if you have hard water. And who wants to pay for five or six gallons of distilled water a week to use with a product that should have been made with that issue in mind. Can you imagine the cost over time. Would not recommend this product to anyone for these reasons as well as others mentioned in some of the reviews.

Used for less than a year. It now leaks all over the floor if it's left running. What a mess. Ours did build up mold and dirt over time that we flushed out...gross. Do not recommend.

We bought The UltraSonic Humidifer last winter. We used it in the bedroom for three months. This winter, we had the Humidifer running almost three months and it died. Six months of full use doesn't seem right. The warranty expires one year after purchase. :( It was great while it lasted. We need a Humidifer that has more life than six months of use.

Yes, it is really bad.

Hard to fill because you need to hold it upside down while filling---not that you can let it sit on the sink, you have to hold it. And a gallon weighs...

Also, when you pick it up to refill, it drips all over.

Poor design. I wish I could get my money back.

I got this for my kids room and dropped the water tank after about 2 weeks because there is no way to set it down on a surface while you put the lid on. I'm frustrated that "accident" is not covered under the warranty as this was something that could have been avoided by better design. (I see that other people had the same problem!)

I purchased this humidifier 1 month ago. I cleaned it as instructed in the booklet. It has a moldy/musty smell that is coming out of it. I have asthma and do not think it is wise to use this machine. It is very difficult to fill up. I have arthritis in both hands so it makes it even harder to try to hold the heavy tank as it is filling. I am very disappointed with this purchase. I need to find out how to return this item.

unit works well, but does have a noise issue with the fan. the only time it's super quiet is when it's off.

After returning another brands humidifier, I was thrilled to discover this humidifier for the price, the design, and most importantly the claim that it has anti-microbial technology. I purchased it in November and use it everyday and I'm finding that it does need to be refilled more often than I expected, it gurgles from time to time which isn't a huge flaw, and it is emitting a foul smell from the tank and base. I was hoping with the anti-microbial claim I wouldn't see that scuzzy stuff floating in the base but there is. I actually had to stop using it because the smell is so disturbing and I think I'll be returning it. I also don't understand why there are not any tanks that can be designed to fill from the top, maybe I just gave away a Shark Tank idea!

January 7, 2015

The first one we purchased wouldn't work when we plugged it in. It appeared to be brand new. The replacement worked nicely for about 2 weeks before it stopped working as well. It started making a loud strange sound, but stopped putting vapor out. We do not recommend this product.

Was out shopping for a new humidifier and I saw this homedics model and I just could not resist it. It was very quiet it had a nightlight and best of all it automatically would shut off if the water level was too low too bad I couldn't use it because of the awkward shaped tank. I actually broke mine but thanks to their return policy they made everything easy so I would recommend it as long as you can be careful with it.

How do you clean this humidifier? I purchased one and it has developed a gunky film where the mist comes out of the fan.

I don't get all the positive reviews??? Used this once and the floor and bed/blankets were totally wet. Maybe mine is broken? I special ordered it from Bed Bath & Beyond as they were totally sold out. Had high hopes but my wood floors will get ruined if I keep using this thing...

December 24, 2014

Works great - but have issues with trying fill tank. I actually dropped it and cracked it after 1 week of use.

December 23, 2014

love the r2d2 look cute design or I can say the best design from their brand. The noise still a bit not that quiet. Love th holder of the tank. Again the design is cool

December 14, 2014

The best humidifier I have used. Ultra quiet and no dampness around unit. Very pleased so far. I hope its great performance last. No filters to change or buy is another plus.

bad design. there is no handle on the bottom for when you are filling the tank. the added weight of the water makes it difficult to hold while filling. When the plastic tank gets some water on it while you're filling it it gets slippery. mine just slipped out of my hand and the plastic tank broke on the tub.

December 5, 2014

I purchased this because it had all 5 star reviews. I must have got a dud. The high pitched whine of the motor kept me up all night and I finally turned it off at 4:00 a.m. I still have a 15 year old Sunbeam which is quiet, and has an adjustable spout to adjust the direction of the stream of mist. I was replacing it because I have to refill every day. This one doesn't emit mist unless you turn it all the way to the right so it will have to be refilled every day too. I would say it also needs a power on light but the sound alone would make it unnecessary. What a waste of money.

I bought this humidifier last winter and it worked great for the whole season. I cleaned it per the instructions and put it away for the spring and summer. I cleaned it again this afternoon and turned it on - it worked great for about 3 minutes. Now the fan blows and I can hear the water gurgling but no mist comes out. I will not be spending another $60 this year on a humidifier that will only work for one season.

This unit works great, but the tank is poorly designed. When it is upside down for filling, it is not very easy to hold. I ended up dropping mine and cracking the tank.

November 4, 2014

This is the very best humidifier I have ever own. It's quite, love the built in nite light. I haven't had any blocked sinuses or headaches. It's very nice looking & not bulky to handle.
I just might get another for the living room as well!
Thank you Ho Medics.

Bought this from QVC one year ago. It is quiet and does work. But, it did not last. The fan has quit so the unit does not work now. I beleve a $60 unit should last more than one season. I just purchased 4 new mineral filters and now they are useless too.

October 28, 2014

Love how this thing is designed!

I can keep it running while removing the tank due to the way the transducer is isolated from the reservoir basin.

Although the only thing I could change possibly is the fan unit. It tends to be a bit noisy. This might either be due to the way its mounted (no rubber mounts) or the fan design (squirrel cage, rather than bladed).

But aside from the fan noise, I love this thing :)

What do you do if the steam is not visible?

May 9, 2014

This is by far the best humidifier I have ever used. Its very quiet and i can actually
see this mist coming out. It never makes anything around it wet though. The company has been wonderful to work with. I dropped and broke a part of my humidifier and they replace it for me. It has a nice appearance and i love that you can turn off the night light which was not possible on my last unit. I would recommend this humidifier to anyone!

I was suffering from headaches in the middle of the night. As I would get up and walk down the hall to get an aspirin, I noticed a crackling and relief of pressure in my head. This indicated to me that my sinuses were clogged. The static electricity in the house led me to believe that the extremely dry air in the house was causing me sinus distress. I purchases the HoMedics humidifier because I had owned a few other HoMedics products and had experienced satisfactory use from them. It was easy to set up. The instructions were easy to read and understand. I like the fact that it has a one gallon tank which is more than enough for a night's sleep, even at maximum setting. This is an outstanding item that has performed very well for me. I have not had night time headaches since beginning to use the humidifier. If you are having sinus trouble at night, give this item a try. I highly recommend it.

January 23, 2014

This is my first humidifier and I am very pleased with how silent it is and how easy it is to refill. I like how you can adjust how much mist you want and to be able to turn off the night light if you wish. I am pleased with the looks and would recommend this particular one to anyone looking for a humidifier.

December 18, 2013

I bought this humidifier since my old humidifier sounded like a freight train and I was determined to have peace and quiet and humidity in my house. I am pleased to tell anyone and everyone this unit is ultimately quiet!!! I couldn't be happier!!! It blows the cool mist out but doesn't make anything wet like some humidifiers I've had. Even on the highest setting, the path under the mist doesn't feel damp. It has a pleasant appearance and has a little night light which I would think would be nice in a child's room. The only criteria left to judge is the longevity.... Homedics...don't let me down!!!
